POV just bought a new maid bot to help his wife prepare for tonight’s dinner party. She seems skeptical at first, but she agrees to give the bot a chance to prove her abilities. The Hannah Bot unit enters. “I am Hannah Bot 3000 LTD. How may I be of service, Madam?” Ludella looks her over. “I don’t know, dear. She seems a bit...mechanical. Don’t you think she might spook the guests?” Ludella gives her the task to dust. “Command received.” The maid unit begins dusting. Ludella nods in agreement that perhaps this will work after all. Just a few more tests to be sure. “Hannah Bot, please go fetch a bucket of ice.” “Command Received, Madam.” Hannah Bot leaves the dining room and returns with a bucket of ice. “Good, now, fix me a drink on the rocks.” “Yes, Madam.”

The bot removes the top of the ice bucket, but falters trying to reach in to grasp a piece of ice to fill the glass. It seemed to only be a slight glitch though and soon she’s filling the glass. But she keeps filling...and filling...until it is overflowing and Ludella has to grab the glass from her because of all the ice that is dropping to the floor. “Scanning...glass not found...scanning...” “Of course it’s not found, I had to take it from you.” The bot begins to glitch and malfunction until she has to shut herself down. “I hope you got a warranty on this piece of junk? You didn’t? What were you thinking? Imagine if this was our dinner party right now and how embarrassing this would be. There’s so much ice on the floor it’s like we’re in Antarctica! Okay, I’ll reboot her and give her one more chance, but only because you didn’t get a warranty.” Ludella pushes the power button on the back of Hannah Bot’s neck and she restarts. “Error. Command not found. Rebooting. How may I help you, Madam--Madam?” “Why don’t you start by cleaning up all this ice you got everywhere?” “Yes, Madam. Command received.” The bot begins to pick up the blocks of ice and return them to the bucket as commanded. “Oh, my. Someone sure made a mess in here.” “You did! You did this!” Ludella says, frustrated at the continuously glitchy maid unit. “It sure looks like someone had a party in here.” Ludella can’t believe that the unit is making these kinds of remarks when she was the one responsible for making the mess in the first place. The maid unit picks up the last two blocks and has trouble returning them to the bucket, but after a brief mechanical error, she finally drops the last blocks in.

“Well, I could sure use a stiff drink. Hannah Bot, bring me a glass of “Yes, Madam.” The bot leaves and returns to Ludella with a glass. “You look like you need to relax. Here.” “Thank you, Hannah Bot,” Ludella says, going to grab the glass, but then Hannah moves her arm away, then back again mechanically in another glitch. “I’ll take the glass now, Hannah Bot. Hannah Bot!” Ludella keeps trying to grasp the glass, but the maid unit keeps turning away whenever she tries to reach it. And then the maid bot begins shaking in her malfunction and the liquid spills all over Ludella’s chest....which starts SPARKING. Ludella stares down in disbelief. “Why am I Sp-sp-sp-sp-sparking?” Suddenly she’s pulled out of her sophisticated human personality mode and into a more basic robotic level of functioning, only completely glitchy from the damage to her internal hardware. She begins to move stiffly and mechanically, causing the sparks to stop flying out from her chest. “Fire detected. Must....” She pours a cup of ice down her dress. “Fire put out.”

Now POV has not just 1 malfunctioning fembot, but TWO going completely haywire. The Ludella unit and the Hannah unit try to interact with each other, but are not on the same wavelength and are continuing to glitch in their interactions and their solo behaviors. Ludella walks robotically back toward POV. “I am Wife Bot 2.70. I cook, I cl-cl-cl-cl-clean. And I do all the seeexxxxxxx things. I am anatomically corrrrrrrrrect.” Her face twitches uncontrollably into different distortions. She finally malfunctions her way into shutting down and needs to reboot. Between all the freezes, vocal glitches, and complete mechanical errors, these two fembots do not seem to be in well enough order for the party tonight...especially when after more glitchy interactions, the Ludella unit begins to shake uncontrollably and falls backward onto the table, her eye twitching and body convulsing from the underlying electrical damage until she stops moving completely. One eye still stuck twitching before it opens wide and she stares blankly ahead. The Hannah continues to have errors until she too seems to have an electrical burnout and she falls forward, eyes and mouth wide, unresponsive. POV grasps Ludella’s head and moves it back and forth, and then does the same with Hannah Bot’s. Neither unit emits any kind of response. This reservicing is going to take more than a reboot. He might need to rush order in a new wife unit to save face at tonight’s party. The one laid out before him is definitely out of commission.
